Yesterday, I started a new commissioned portrait and decided to use classical pointillism rather than my modified style. It truly is like “Coming Home”; like visiting a parent’s house and going to that old chair that always was my “designated comfort spot”, sinking in, and putting my feet up. Ahh! Home.
I’ve been writing instructional books on Pointillism and it’s given me a clearer picture of what it is all about. I thought I should practice what I preach. This commissioned portrait was the perfect opportunity. So while I’m painting this sweet image of a boy, I am paying more attention to my brush strokes or “dots”, mixing colors by overlapping primary and secondary colors, and creating actual images via shadows and tertiary colors.
Who knows where this revisit will lead? All I know is “It’s good to be home.”
